Note Culinaire 3/13

Hello and welcome in to mid-March. This week I’m bringing some traditional and tasty Irish recipes in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The first is a simple Irish Soda Bread. I feel like this is always associated with St. Paddy’s Day, so I wanted to include it. The second is one of my favorite soups—potato leek—creamy and full of flavor. And the third recipe this week is one of my favorite biscuits to make from Great Britain—shortbread. Not just any shortbread, though. This is the recipe from one of my favorite hit shows—Ted Lasso. If you’ve seen it, you know that Ted charms his new boss Rebecca with shortbread biscuits in a little pink box. She initially rejects them, but is eventually won over, and if you try them, you’ll know why. They are simple to make,  buttery, and totally delicious.  Whether you’re Irish, celebrate socially, or just want to try making Irish soda bread, hopefully you’ll enjoy one or all of these recipes.

The snow piles are finally gone here in the nyc tri-state area, and we saw our first few 70-degree days, so it’s starting to feel like spring. In the next two weeks, I’ll be bringing you some of my favorite Easter recipes as I look forward to the shifting of seasons to spring and summer.

I’m also dreaming of a farewell to summer this year in Italy. I’ll be headed there right as summer shifts into fall, and if you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing “dolce far niente” as the Italians say—the “sweetness of doing nothing”— then click here for more information on the trip I’ll be taking, and come along!
